Tips for choosing a quality Face Painter 11/17/2010
With so many face painters to choose from its important that you hire an entertainer that will provide safe, fun, and creative services to everyone participating. Here are some tips and questions to consider when booking your painter. Are you insured? With any business insurance is a MUST! Most professional face painters will carry a full liability policy. Ask to see their certificate of insurance, some larger events request that a certificate is issued naming the venue. What type of paints do you use? Professional face paints are highly pigmented cosmetic products that are pressed powders, loose powders or water activated. Craft or acrylic paints should never be applied to the skin and face. They are not safe for use on those areas. The main brands used by professionals are Snazaroo, DFX/Wolfe, Kryolan, Mehron, Paradise, Ben Nye, Temptu & Gratobian. There are other brands but these are the most popular brands in the US. Typically paints come in pots/disc or in a palette. A note about Glitter! Glitter, glitter everywhere! Glitter is often the perfect accent to finish off a design. But not all glitters are equal, nor should they be used on the face! Professional painters use professional products and this includes glitter. Glitter used for face and body art should be a maximum of .008 microns and made of polyester, this is the FDA approved size. Metallic or craft glitters should never be used on the skin and face. Often these glitters contain glass fragments that can damage the eyes and skin.
